I am going to create this work by taking inspiration from the poems of Ikkyu from the "Floating Clouds" collection.
Selected for their beauty, their sadness and the subtlety of their teachings, these texts are for children as well
as adults. They will be sung by a soprano accompanied by a koto and a shamisen. With these texts, I hope with all my heart
that I get as close as possible to the world of the poet.

A THOUSAND AND ONE NIGHTS

One evening I was at home, in Tokyo, exhausted. I was trying to relax.
And then they arrived, the two of them, Hijikata and Maro. They might have had a bit to drink.
They came in and we chatted well into the night. Hijikata said:
« I would like the stage to be black, like a moonless night »
I interrupted him:
« Totally black ? Really ? Is that possible ? »
He looked at me in silence and replied calmly:
« Black... ! »
Those few words still echo inside me.
